Sometimes "Yes" Really Means "No"

In time I will develop a sixth sense on how to read people...at least that's what person's hubby expects of me.  I mentioned before in a former posting that I'd like people to be upfront with me if they don't want to grant my request for the shoe photo-shoots.  I told the girl clerk what I was all about and that I only wanted pics of her shoes and NOT anything involving HER (ie:  her face).  She granted me permission and even had a fellow clerk help her out with the shoe poses.  She also told me that her hubby used to work at a shoe store and bought her those cool shoes I was talking about.  I gave  2 buinsess cards and 1 to her male co-worker.  I told her to give one to her hubby b/c I was confident I wasn't doing anything wrong and I was under the impression her hubby is a fan of shoes as well.

To my surprise, I got an e-mail from her hubby later on that I made her feel uncomforable.  I literally had a "WTF" moment right there.  I didn't pressure her in my request to her.  I clearly stated that I was a big fan of shoes and I even encouraged her to let her hubby know about my website and yet, he gave me the impression I was harassing his wife at her workplace.

When I ask people to "honest", I don't mean to be honest behind my back.  It stresses me out more that way b/c it makes it look like I forced someone to do something against his/her own will.  Shoe poses look the best when people are ready and willing.  My article:  "Screen Capture Collage" is a great example of an individual ready and willing.  The results are amazing.  It also illustrates the difference b/n how a shoe looks on and off a person.  It's no different than featuring clothes (to sell).  You are better able to sell clothing worn by someone.  When it comes to shoes, it's showmanship of the art and the style.

What are your thoughts?  How can I tell when someone is really saying no even though they're saying yes?  This story continues with:  "Too Quick to Judge!!"

  1. Not to mention, I've even shown her the pics and even e-mailed them to her hubby. I didn't find anything wrong with the pics, nor did I find anything wrong with my request upon review of the pics and the recollection of the turn of events. So why was she still uncomfortable? Why did she say yes when she really didn't want to do it? She's an adult and she needs to take responsibiluty in her own actions too. We live in a society where we're spoiled by the "lifetime guarantee" option for remorseful buyers.
